I just got back from a 5-day trip to Orlando. My real estate company was hosting an event for 10,000 real estate agents. One of my marketing takeaways from the event was not from a class, but from interactions with others. I love to go to these things and take a pulse on my own impact and brands.

While 2 people did mention they were sorry to see me go to eXp (no, I never did), nearly everyone I met knew of my brands (real estate team, courses, marketing agency, coaching, etc).

But Here’s the Kicker.

I haven’t been on a big stage in 6 years. I haven’t traveled and taught classes for most of the past 7 years. And I even let my direct touches to my agent database lapse during my “finding myself phase” post-divorce.

So what was it? How do these new agents know what I do or where I am?

Video, Video, Video.

One after the next “I watch your youtube videos, I learned (X) watching your videos, I follow your channel”.

Youtube. The power of video is remarkable. And still, so underutilized. And truthfully, I didn’t feel like I was really doing a lot of work making a series of tutorial videos. And the impact of them has blown me away.

Why Video?

With video, we can: answer questions, solve problems, and even build trust. People feel like they know you when they watch your videos.

What’s more, is that my other streams of income are also benefitting from having Youtube channels. If you’ve ever thought of starting one, jump in. Get uncomfortable. Be OK with whatever you create, and allow the skills to develop over time.

Youtube channels can be monetized in many ways besides getting hired for services, and there is ZERO startup cost. No hosting, no websites, just upload a video from your phone or computer.

My videos don’t generally get a lot of views individually, honestly. Yet the views add up and can create a big brand, help people navigate an area or niche, and create a relationship “virtually”.

The power of Youtube. Remarkable Here are my Top Tips for creating a winning Youtube Channel.

Top Tips

  1. Start Right Now.
  2. Know your audience. Identify their wants, needs, and challenges.
  3. Create content for that audience, specifically.
  4. Create videos around topics people search for.
  5. Create How-to videos based on your skills (on Medium, that could be WRITING).
  6. Use Canva to create fun, captivating thumbnails.
  7. Don’t freak out if you don’t get many views. They add up over time.
  8. Don’t quit 5 minutes before the miracle happens.
  9. If you are inspired to create content, follow the inspiration.
  10. Be authentic. Don’t try to be someone else on camera. You are unique. Be you.
  11. If you are not inspired to create content, follow a topic list.
  12. Show up. Create. Publish.
